Comfort and coziness in the workplace are directly linked to the productivity of the team. Collective monitoring and targeted data collection of thermal conditions, lighting, acoustics and ventilation is not possible using conventional building automation. In the PoC for a major Swiss bank, we use Eliona to make the quality of the indoor climate visible and controllable via various interfaces.
Conventional initial situation
Room climate can only be controlled by the user to a limited extent
Coordination with light, noise and air conditions only possible to a limited extent
Information not provided to end users
Solution approach IOT
Evaluation of IEQ values via various interfaces in Eliona
Individual climate zones in the room
Trend evaluations, data collection and targeted alarming
Information to end users with optional control of certain IEQ factors
For a cost/benefit calculation, not only the short-term installation costs should be taken into account. Long-term operation, advantages in monitoring, reporting or usability and new interaction options are also important and must be included in the calculation.
In principle, however, it can be clearly defined in this PoC that an IOT solution is around 25 to 30% cheaper to purchase and operate than a conventional GA solution. In addition, the IOT solution allows the end user (in this case, the employee) to directly control the climate conditions at their workplace. This would not have been possible with conventional methods.
The clear results from the PoC finally convinced the customer to examine the topic of smart buildings and IEQ at office locations worldwide and to implement it with Eliona from 2023.
